Implications of Academicians Who Participated In EU Erasmus Education Program
Abstract
This study aims at determining the implications of academic staff that joined the Erasmus pro gram from
Cumhuriyet University, in the frame of academic mobility. Several people and institutions in our country
have benefited from the EU education programs since 2005. University students and academic staff have
been important ones among them. Cumhuriyet University is also one of these universities whose staff and
students have been increasingly attending those programs. Yet, the benefits and outcomes of joining these
programs are not searched or evaluated in terms of academic concerns. So this study attempts to find out
the reasons why academicians take place in these programs, the problems they encounter during the
application and participation period, the benefits and outcomes according to their own perceptions and
also the similarities and differences between our university and the visited one. Qualitative method was
preferred for the study. Data were gathered from selected participant academicians who have joined any
of Erasmus programs between the years 2006-2010. Semi-structured interview forms were prepared and
used by the researcher. Also, data were supplied from CU International Office documents. Data were
analyzed with content analysis techniques and evaluated. Results showed that all participants benefited
from the program and they had a good experience. The results also show that the general objectives of
those programs are realized in terms of several dimensions.
