GÜVENLİK VE EKONOMİK BOYUTUYLA NÜKLEER ENERJİ TAR-TIŞMALARI: AKKUYU NÜKLEER SANTRALİ ÖRNEĞİ
Abstract
Due to its extensity of usage area, low price and guarantee feature, nuclear energy has a very important role in today’s world. Especially, increasing competition in the globalization process requires looking for easier and cheaper ways in terms of achieving energy. Many countries including France and the USA meet their electricity and thermal requirement from nuclear energy. However, in the last 50 years, there have been serious nuclear accidents like Chernobyl and nuclear power plant explosion which triggered by other natural disasters in Fukushima, so quick precautions have been taken to prevent danger. So that, the security dimension of energy could have aroused. Following that, many institutions and governments like EU worked on decreasing the risks of accidents and on using the nuclear energy for just peaceful aims. Nuclear energy debates are progressing ambidextrously. In these discussions, it seems to be difficult to reach consensus. People affirming the process tells that as a result of nuclear energy, risk are not so high, economic prosperity is inevitable and dependency to abroad will be lower. On the other hand, the people negating the process defend that humanity health is at risk over radiation, there will be environmental problems and low economic benefits will be available. Recently, Akkuyu nuclear power plant which has been considered to be established takes places in the focus of security debates in Turkey. The purpose of this study is to analyse nuclear energy with its security dimension by showing opposite debates on this type of energy and discuss possible risks of establishment of Akkuyu Nuclear Plant
