In this article the programs for training foreign language teachers currently applied in Turkey and Germany were examined in respect to the purpose, content, education-learning process and evaluation in relation to the general structure of the education faculties and recommendations were made for the improvement of foreign language teacher programs to make them more effective.
Approximately 4 years ago a series of changes were made in the programs for the training of foreign language teachers during the reorganization of the education faculties in Turkey. Such updating should be made at certain intervals. This comparative article shows the types of changes made in the programs for training foreign language teachers in Turkey and Germany over the last 10 years to meet the local, national, European Union and international requirements. And then it was examined to see if these changes were sufficient. The graduate programs of the foreign language teachers were evaluated in relation to the education faculties and education systems. Therefore, first of all the education faculties were examined in general and then the programs for foreign language teaching were discussed.
